Almost every desk chair on Amazon now calls itself ergonomic, so the word on its own tells you very little. What matters is how many of the adjustments in the HSE display screen equipment checklist the chair actually offers: seat height, seat depth, back angle with a usable tilt lock, lumbar support you can move, and armrests that drop low enough to slide under the desk. This guide lines up seven chairs, from a Steelcase task chair to well-equipped mesh chairs from ProtoArc, Hbada and COLAMY, and compares them on those points. Every figure comes from the maker's listing. Where a listing leaves something out, such as the load rating or the seat depth travel, we say so rather than guess. Start with the adjustments you know you need, then check the load rating and seat sizes against your own height and build.

The products in detail
No. 1 · Steelcase
Steelcase Think: synchro tilt, 4D arms, LiveBack
A French-made Steelcase task chair with adjustable seat depth, 4D armrests, height-adjustable lumbar and a synchronised tilt. It suits anyone who wants the full adjustment list in a compact, upholstered-seat chair.
In its favour
- Covers the main checklist points: seat depth, fully adjustable arms, movable lumbar, tilt tension and a synchronised seat and back mechanism.
- The LiveBack backrest uses a flexing frame and polypropylene membrane, so the back moves with you rather than staying rigid.
- The seat fabric is 95% wool with a stated 120,000 Martindale abrasion rating, a useful sign of how well the cover will wear.
Good to know
- The bullets mention a 12-year warranty but the spec table says 5 years, so confirm the terms with the seller before buying.
- There is no headrest, which matters if you like to lean right back during calls or breaks.

No. 2 · HINOMI
Hinomi H2 Pro: 19 adjustment points, 143° recline
A premium mesh chair with 19 adjustment settings, adaptive lumbar with depth and tilt control, flip-up arms and a 143° recline. It suits people who want lots of fine tuning plus a deep lean-back position.
In its favour
- Hinomi lists 19 separate adjustment settings, more than any other chair in this guide, to suit different body types.
- The headrest adjusts in height, depth and angle, and the armrests flip up so the chair can tuck under a desk.
- The listing states spare parts are available for 12 years in the EU, which supports long-term ownership.
Good to know
- The listing does not say how far the seat slides, so check the seat depth range if you have long or short thighs.
- The retractable footrest is described as optional, so it may not be included in this listing.

No. 3 · ProtoArc
ProtoArc EC300: 6 cm back height, 5 cm seat slide
A mesh-seat chair whose whole backrest rises by 6 cm, with a 5 cm seat slide and a synchronous tilt. It suits users from about 163 to 195 cm tall, according to ProtoArc.
In its favour
- Raising the whole backrest by 6 cm moves the lumbar area and headrest together, which helps line the back up with your spine.
- The seat slides through 5 lockable positions over 5 cm, and the maker quotes a fit range of 163 to 195 cm in height.
- ProtoArc states the chair meets BS EN 1335 and uses a TUV Rheinland certified class 4 gas lift.
Good to know
- The lumbar is described as firm and fixed to the backrest, so you cannot set its depth separately.
- The 127 kg load rating is lower than several rivals here, which rules it out for heavier users.

No. 4 · COLAMY
COLAMY mesh chair: 4D arms, sliding seat, headrest
A high-back mesh chair with 4D armrests, a sliding seat, adjustable lumbar and headrest, and an aluminium base. A sensible pick for a tall desk setup that needs every main adjustment.
In its favour
- It brings together 4D armrests, a sliding seat, adjustable lumbar, headrest and a 4-position tilt lock in one chair.
- The base is aluminium alloy and the class 4 gas cylinder is stated as SGS verified.
- The seat cushion uses high-density moulded foam with a mesh back, a common mix for warm rooms.
Good to know
- The spec table lists only a 1-year warranty, shorter than most chairs in this guide.
- The listing does not state how far the seat slides or how much the lumbar moves.

No. 5 · ProtoArc
ProtoArc EC200 Pro: all-mesh seat, 4D arms
An all-mesh chair with 4D armrests, two-way lumbar, a 3D headrest and a 5 cm seat slide. It suits lighter users who want full arm adjustment and a seat that stays cool.
In its favour
- The lumbar moves 6 cm up and down and 2 cm in depth, so you can set both its height and how firmly it presses.
- Full 4D armrests move up, down, forward, back, sideways and rotate 30° to meet the desk edge properly.
- The seat is 100% mesh with 5 depth positions, fitting users from about 163 to 183 cm according to the listing.
Good to know
- The 220 lb (100 kg) maximum load is the lowest in this guide.
- No warranty length is given on this listing, unlike the 5 years quoted for other ProtoArc models.

No. 6 · Hbada
Hbada E3 Air: 3-zone lumbar, weight-sensing recline
A mesh chair with 3-zone elastic lumbar, 4D headrest and armrests, adjustable seat depth and a recline that sets its own resistance. It suits people who dislike fiddling with tension knobs.
In its favour
- Seat depth, seat height, headrest, backrest and armrests are all listed as adjustable.
- The weight-sensing chassis sets recline resistance from your body weight, so there is no tension knob to tune.
- Hbada lists an SGS class 4 gas lift and a heavy-duty steel base, tested to BIFMA standards.
Good to know
- This grey listing does not state a maximum load; the black version is listed at 150 kg, so check before ordering.
- There is no manual tilt tension, which some people prefer for a firmer or lighter recline.

No. 7 · ProtoArc
ProtoArc EC200: 33 to 43 cm seat depth, class 4 lift
A mesh chair with a clearly stated 33 to 43 cm seat depth range, two-way lumbar and a 4-position recline. It is a sound entry point for a home office with a standard-height desk.
In its favour
- The listing gives the seat depth range in centimetres (33 to 43 cm), which makes fit easy to check against your thighs.
- Two-way lumbar moves 6 cm vertically and 2 cm in depth, and the recline tension has its own knob.
- ProtoArc quotes a 5-year warranty with free replacement parts and a class 4 gas lift tested to EN 16955.
Good to know
- The armrests only adjust in height (7 cm), so they cannot slide or pivot to meet the desk edge.
- A 220 lb (100 kg) load rating limits it for heavier users.
